A well connected, diverse, active downtowns is the key to a prosperous city in the coming years. Are we ready? what do we need to do to get there?
Check out a Blog from Rick of Panetos where he sums up a forum he attended in Lansing, MI called, on “Downtown Pioneers – The New Environmentalists.” He talks about banning the word, "Urban Pioneer" because of its overuse, but in many ways it is a RE-discovery of what could connect us. Its exploring and discovering an…

Interesting concept of using the first mile to concentrate the first mile by concentrating activity within the fist mile. Creating a closed loop resource production that all is made within one mile. Check out the Video and share your thoughts- it is not the best production quality but the ideas are quite intriguing. This is a fascinating example of how to think differently through concentrating…

This article raises some real issues our region is facing currently and in the coming years. Was re-appropriating the finding for TBARTA the best move? Where does this leave our community? Please share your thoughts below.

but definitely one of the two.
Until we decide that PEOPLE are more important that cars, we will continue to mount the fatalities and our communities will not be safer. There is no doubt that cars are an important (and unfortunately necessary) part of every day life. (Mainly because there are no alternatives). But until we shift our mindset and hierarchy to people we will continue to lead the nation in highest pedestrian fatalities. The following article explains why we…

Hi Adam,
Thanks! It was a great event yesterday! I totally forgot to sign in! I wish I could have stayed to chat and meet people but I had to run to another event. As far as the next event, I've lived in a bunch of larger but older cities (NY, Chicago, DC, LA, Houston, Florence (Italy)) There are things that work and things that could be done better in all. I'll brainstorm on ideas. All in all, I think to truly create a livable downtown area, some key things I look for (on par with items of the 3 plans) walkability (safety from areas around the outskirts (tampa heights, ybor, channelside) (bike too), affordable living options, retail spaces, grocery, dining/nightlife, arts, outdoor/park areas....I loved the ease of transport in NYC and Chicago via metro and commuter +EL train although I know these are elaborate systems. Some newer cities have implemented better bike / pedestrian lanes than the ones I was in...I will think on it more :)
