That is a very valid concern and it something that they are considering. I know that they are planning this as a commuter train; so, hopefully it will be inexpensive or some sort of year or monthly pass will be available, as well as, daily tickets.

The problem I see with rail transportation will be the high cost of the ticket.

Interesting indeed. I wonder how many other Ybor roads still have the original brick paver under them? it is great to see the street as more than a thouroghfare but as a place, a character, a story... Materials can make spaces feel more real.

High Speed Rail

Tampa, Orlando, Miami

Rush hour on I-4 has never been pleasant. Most would avoid it if at all possible. It is a strange mix of vacationers and commuters who are both frustrated at the conditions because they have recently left work to have "time off". Many of us have suffered the painfully long wait for the construction of the widening of I-4 to start and when it did, we wished it hadn't. One less lane is a huge disadvantage to traffic and a driver's mental state. For years there has bee… Continue

Ybor's Brick Roads

Inspired by Manny Leto's Creative Loafing piece Hit the Bricks

While driving, the typical thing to do is race as legally as possible to be first to a red light in an effort to be first to the next red light. Some tailgating occurs and thoughts of honking at the slow person that we all somehow end up behind. Driving is not pleasant. Don't look out the window. In a hurry. Something strange and magical happens when that first transition hits us. We hit that first row of brick and ar… Continue

Tampa's Trees

This is something that the Forestry Division would love to continue having not only because of the shade the trees provide on a sunny day or the sense of comfort that an old oak gives just by looking at it. They also help continue the balance between carbon dioxide emissions and fresh oxygen. In some cases, they help keep earth from eroding into our waterways.

The Forestry Division’s mission is,
“To… Continue

Car Sharing

The move towards becoming “Green” has become very important for many people. When it comes to cars, there are varying degrees of eco-friendliness that each person is willing to do. There are many options now. A person could cut back the amount of cars he or she owns, get a more fuel efficient vehicle, drive less, carpool, or car share.

When most here the phrase “Car Sharing”, they instantly associate it with carpooling and create a negative mood towards it. While carpooling is green, it is also… Continue
