Downtown Blueprint - elements needed - and why its important

A well connected, diverse, active  downtowns is the key to a prosperous city in the coming years. Are we ready? what do we need to do to get there?

Check out a Blog from Rick of Panetos where he sums up a forum he attended in Lansing, MI called, on “Downtown Pioneers – The New Environmentalists.”   He talks about banning the word, "Urban Pioneer" because of its overuse, but in many ways it is a RE-discovery of what could connect us. Its exploring and discovering an area that we simply take for granted, but is the whole reason why we all are living here. And our economic futures are directy connected to how well our downtown does.

Our downtowns could be our physical connection hub, our economic activity centers and provide  diverse housing options all the while creating a social stage for human interaction and experiences.  All required elements of a city poised for the future to handle the 21st century economic activityIs Tampa ready to design its future?. Build its economic infrastructure from internal sources as opposed to clubbing a big fish and dragging it to our region and hoping it stays with no real ties to the area.   We can be!  The people are heare, the brains are hear, the education is here. But part of strategy on everybody's plan must be a consistent effort to promote and strengthen our downtown at every opportunity and with every decision made. A well designed built environment, solidifies our identity and promotes social and physical connectivity. A well designed downtown will  provide the playground for the economic and social activities to take place and our prosperity to thrive.

ITS YOUR city- invest in its future and keep its economic engine going. Check out the points he makes that he noted from the forum .   this one is my favorite:

"According to one slide, dropping the ownership of one car can free up enough money to afford a $100,000 larger mortgage."
