More folks want to know where their food comes from, plus wish to cultivate the peace of mind and sense of self-reliant independence. Since the early 1980’s, John Starnes, who is a writer for St Petersburg Times, has taught classes covering the basics of the urban homesteading. He has developed this class to empower folks with better fresher food and greater prosperity in good economic times, and greater security in lean times like these.

A useful handout will be provided. Please bring a notepad and pen, as we will cover many points in detail. Free seeds will be shared at the beginning of the class to help get you started. Feel free to use a camera to record key features you find especially useful. Questions and Answers are permitted, so in advance jot down points you are curious about.

His goal is to share how to take a demanding yard giving little back for all the mowing and watering, and transform it in stages into a source of fresh organic food all year round without resorting to pesticides or obscene water use. John will show you how cheap and easy this can be! Children 12 and under can attend for free.

Would absolutely LOVE to attend this as I have a few veggies growing at home, but I'll be out of town. I'll make a point of catching this next time, if its offered again {crosses fingers}

I am pretty bummed that I can't attend this great workshop. This looks like a very informative session and a topic that I am strongly for. Please go if you can make the time!

Love this idea. Will it teach me how not to kill basil?
